Oceanography Study Program (PS. OCY), Oceanography Department, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) Diponegoro University was established according to the license of establishment No 2282/D/T/2001 on July 4th, 2001. The Decree (SK) number of the operational license extension of the Dirjen DIKTI No. 3307/D/T/2008 on September 17th, 2008 and the permit had been established on August 6th, 2012 No. 12668/D/T/K-N/2012. The Oceanography Study Program in 2009 had been accredited with rank B accreditation with the number of SK BAN-PT No 011/BAN-PT/AK-XII/S1/V/2009. The Oceanography Study Program (PS. OCY), is intended to graduate scholars who mastered and are able to apply science and technology in the field of oceanography in the management, planning and protection of the coastal and marine regions in a quality and sustainable manner particularly in disaster mitigation, planning and development of coastal areas and the study of Maritime and oceanic alternative energy.
The level of competition for the entrance is quite high with the ratio of 2.3: 1 to 7.13: 1 , it makes the students who get in the study program possess great quality. Registrants come from various provinces (25 provinces), it is an indicator that the Oceanography Study Program has been acknowledged in Indonesia, although similar studiy programs in Indonesia is only found in ITB and Universitas Hang Tuah Surabaya.
The ratio between students and professors InOceanography Study Program is 427: 27 or 16: 1, this ratio is quite ideal compared with other courses both in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science and at the university level. This condition will always be sought to create a good service to studentsThe total of teaching staff in the Oceanography Study Program is 26 people, the lectures comprise of 4 doctors and 22 masters. There is 1 person (4%) who is based on the functional Ministry of Health Teachers (professors), the number of head of lector is 6 people (23%), the numer of lector is 13 people (50%) and 6 people (23%) are expert assistant.
