Curriculum Structure of Oceanography Undergraduate Program
About Curriculum
Regarding the policy of Merdeka Belajar: Kampus Merdeka by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Permendikbud No. 3 in 2020), the Oceanography Study Program is currently implementing a transition between curriculum 2017 and 2020. The 2020 curriculum aims to promote freedom of learning where each student is allowed and advised to actively participate in courses from other study programs according to their interests and spend credits off-campus in the form of internships. Each course credit is in the form of 50 minutes of face-to-face and 170 minutes of practice. Both curricula certainly require students to take compulsory courses in the first year to build character and provide basic knowledge and skills in the laboratory and the field. In the next two years, the courses given in the 2017 Curriculum focus on strengthening knowledge and laboratory and field skills with subjects related to marine science, entrepreneurship, field practice and scientific writing. Meanwhile, at the end of the 3rd year of the 2020 curriculum, some compulsory courses related to marine science are reduced, and students can choose more elective courses related to their interests, both on and off-campus. Students are required to conduct a final research project and write a final report (diploma thesis) in the last year of study.
2017 Curriculum
Oceanography Undergraduate Program provides opportunities for students to complete education within 3.5 – 4 years with 144 credits consisting of classroom learning activities, fieldwork practices, community service and a final project. The curriculum in the Oceanography Undergraduate program consists of 3 stages that must be taken sequentially to achieve the learning objectives
